Who we are?

Snapshot 2011-06-02 13-51-21The Pictou County Recreation & Athletics Society is a non-profit organization made up of a dozen or so volunteers from the county who are interested in maintaining a top calibre track and field facility for our county residents as well as developping a competitive track and field club for our youth. The society was formed in the fall of 2004 and restructured in 2011. It includes an executive as well as board of directors along with numerous committees such as programming, maintenance, fundraising, and promotion.

What is our plan?

Picture 5
The track and field facility proposed is a 400metre - 8 lane rubberized track that sits in a bowl below ground level. The infield will include long jump and triple jump pits and runways, a discus circle and cage, shot put rings, a javelin runway with throwing area, high jump and pole vault aprons, and a building complete with an officials room, storage, a canteen, a conference room, and washroom facilities. The site will also provide enough parking for 100+ vehicles. It will be a facility suitable for provincial and national competitions such as NSSAF sanctioned events, Legion Trials, Canada Games, etc.

When will it be completed?

The track and field facility was completed in the spring of 2010 and is officially "open for business". It is always a work in progress with more work to be done on the main clubhouse that includes an upstairs official's room, conference room and bathroom as well as an equipment room, canteen and public washrooms downstairs.

Where is it located?

The state of the art track and field complex has been built at 483 Foster Avenue in Stellarton. The site was chosen for its proximity to the local high schools, its close distance to local amenities such as hotels, restaurants and businesses, as well its accessibility from exit 23.

From Truro, take exit 23 and turn right towards Westville. Follow Westville Rd. until Foster Ave. on left. Take Foster Ave until track facility driveway located on right.
From Antigonish, take exit 23 and turn left towards Westville. Follow Westville Rd. until Foster Ave. Turn left on Foster Ave. and continue about 400m o track facility driveway on right.

Our mission is to complete a national calibre track and field complex that is a safe environment for everyone with proper surfacing to help meet the needs of our county residents in the areas concerning physical fitness. It is our goal that the facility will be utilized by numerous groups and individuals including; students, Special Olympians, wheelchair athletes, and seniors. There is a growing concern in our county and in our province for active healthy living and we (PCRAS) are looking to help.
